Preparing For Your Appointment
You do not need to worry about whether you will “pass” your exam. Neuropsychological tests cannot be passed or failed because they simply function to describe your performance relative to your peers. However, although the tests cannot be studied for, below are some things you can do to facilitate your evaluation.

The first step in preparing for your appointment is making sure you have completed all your intake paperwork which was emailed to you when you made your appointment. Please contact the clinic if you would like them to be re-sent to you. Your intake paperwork must be completed at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment, otherwise your appointment could be canceled

-
CAUTION: Our clinic operates on a very tight schedule. It is strongly advised that you arrive at least 15 mins prior to your scheduled appointment. This allows enough time for parking, comfort breaks, retrieving any forgotten items from your vehicle, and other last-minute activities prior to testing

-
Make sure you arrive to your appointment with all necessary assistive devices i.e. hearing aids, visual aids, mobility aids, etc.

-
If a patient has difficulty providing information about their history, it is helpful for a family member or friend to accompany them (for at least part of the clinical interview)

-
It is helpful to bring records of previous neurodiagnostic testing (e.g., brain scans) or results from previous neuropsychological evaluations

-
Several factors can interfere with your performance on neurocognitive testing e.g., excessive fatigue, lack of motivation, being emotionally distraught or actively experiencing severe psychiatric symptoms, being under the influence of heavy medications or illicit substances, etc. Please let the clinic know if you anticipate any of these issues

-
Be sure to take your regularly prescribed medications as usual.

-
Patients are encouraged not to consume any alcohol 24 hours prior to their evaluation.

-
If there is an active Legal Guardian or Power of Attorney, that individual should be present at the appointment to provide consent for the evaluation.
